Since winning the 2018 Brussels International Guitar Competition, Beattie’s performance career has taken him to stages across North America and Europe. He has won prizes at international competitions in Antwerp, Brussels, Calgary, Enschede, Hamilton, Leicester, Manhattan, and Uppsala.
Beattie’s performance credits include appearances at The Bath Festival, Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, Carnegie Hall, Concertgebouw Amsterdam (supporting Ludovico Einaudi), East Neuk Festival (with Sean Shibe), Kitaranova Festival (Finland), Lammermuir Festival, Perth Concert Hall, Amsterdam Blue Note (with Nai Barghouti), FirstOntario Concert Hall (supporting KD Lang), among many others. Beattie has appeared on radio and television broadcasts for Dutch National TV, BBC Radio Scotland, CBC Radio (Ottawa), and ClassicFM Toronto.
Tim is the first (and so far only) guitarist ever invited to join the prestigious Rebanks Family Fellowship at The Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. He is a graduate of the Amsterdam Conservatory (BMus’19), and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (MMus’21, AD’22) where he was recipient of numerous awards including the RCS Performance Prize in Guitar (‘21, ‘22) and the David Knox Memorial Award for Academic Excellence (2022).
Tim’s studies and artistic projects have been generously supported by the Amsterdam University of the Arts ‘AHK Talent Grant’, Canada Council for the Arts, Cleveland Institute of Music Trust, Royal Conservatoire of Scotland Trust, Weston Family Foundation, Royal Overseas League, Sylva Gelber Foundation, Tillett Trust, and The Worshipful Company of Musicians.
A committed chamber musician, Beattie’s recent collaborations include projects with the Canadian Opera Company, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Scottish Opera, cellist Daniel Hamin Go, guitarist Sasha Savaloni, the Coulthard Trio, and Quartet Malamatina.
Tim is a passionate educator, and is currently an Associate Teacher of Music at the University of St Andrews and St Leonards School (UK). He has recently given workshops and masterclasses at the Alberta Strings Association, Calgary Classical Guitar Society, Mount Royal University, Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, University of Alberta, University of Lethbridge, and the University of Regina Conservatory.
Sasha Savaloni
Classical guitarist Sasha Savaloni is the winner of two of the most prestigious guitar competitions in Europe; the Sevilla International Guitar Competition (2018) and the New Elizabethan Award (2022).
As a soloist he has given concerts across Europe and throughout the UK, performing recitals in venues such as the Wigmore Hall (London), Kings Place (London), Usher Hall (Edinburgh), Sage Gateshead, The Shoe Factory (Nicosia), City Halls (Glasgow), Holyrood Palace (Edinburgh), St John’s Smith Square (London), TUDublin Conservatoire, University of St Andrews, Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, and the Leeds College of Music as well as performances in festivals such as the London Guitar Festival, St Magnus International Festival, Sul Tasto Paris, Festival de la Guitarra de Sevilla, Big Guitar Weekend, Festival Corde d’Autunno, Les Garrigues Memorial Emili Pujol, Bath Guitar Festival, Shrewsbury Guitar Festival, Plug New Music Festival and the Ullapool Guitar Festival.
He has performed as a soloist with orchestras such as the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and the European Union Youth Orchestra, and his playing has been broadcast on BBC Radio Scotland, BBC Radio 3 in addition to German and American radios.
Winner of numerous awards and prizes, Sasha has achieved widespread recognition most notably as the winner of the Sevilla International Guitar Competition and the New Elizabethan Award. In 2015 he won 2nd Prize in both the Ivor Mairants Guitar Award and the Miguel Llobet International Guitar Competition in Barcelona, where he also received the Audience Award and Prize for the Best Performance of the Contemporary Work.
In 2014 he was selected by the International Guitar Foundation for its Young Artist Platform and in 2019 he was a Park Lane Group Artist; at present he is a Live Music Now Scotland artist.
